Triathlon!!!

A few months ago a friend of mine mentioned there being a YMCA sprint triathlon... Since having the pool, and loving all the swim time, I thought it would be fun to train for and do.
The race would be Oct 18-19
You swim on the evening of the 18th and then bike and run on the 19th.
We chose the short course... of course... which was 200m swim, 5 mile bike, and 1 mile run.

The plan was for Drew and I to do it together, however with him having double knee surgery that put him out of the running... I mentioned it to Kara and Aubree, and Aubree was all for it, but Kara was a little unsure.
We had some great swim training until the beginning of Sept.. then it got too cold to swim in our pool.  A week or so later, I was hit with a not so fun head cold and cough that lingered for close to 2 weeks... so training all together stopped...
So, just about 2 weeks before, we took time to do a few bike rides... maybe 3 miles or so...
We also jogged a little..
The day of the swim was a little crazy...
It was our primary program practice, which went well, but then we had to rush to the pool because we were the first ones in our lanes to swim...
Here is a photo of us just before going into swim...

We picked up our packet, and found an empty lane to do a quick warm up lap...
I think the adrenaline had kicked in and we were both a little nervous...

I swam first and had a time of 5:19
Way faster than I thought.. I struggled a little with my goggles and felt as if I would loose my dinner on the first lap... and finished out of breath... I was so glad to have it done with....
Aubree went after me... she did great!
Her time was 6:29
She struggled... just because we hadn't swam for a while... and at one point, Drew told her to go on her back.. which she was glad for...
She did great and we were so proud of her!

9am the next morning we went to Eagle Middle to bike and run...
We watched a large clock and started when we saw our swim time...
So I was a little a head of Aub... but I waited for her to catch up so we could ride together..
On the ride we stuck together with another girl from our ward...
I felt like I could have gone faster... but there was no way I was leaving them on the road by them selves...

We came to the finish line all together (for the bike portion)
We were then off on the one mile run.  My legs were tired, and I quickly got a bad side ache, and I had to walk more than I wanted... So cheered Aubree on as she took off...
She finished 4 min. before me...
The young girl from our ward also struggled with the run...So I stayed with her...
I thought we would finish right together, but about 10 yards before the finish line, she got a burst of energy and took off... So I came in very last of those who did the short course.. but you know.. that is okay... I came across that finish line proud of myself!

Drew and the other girls were great sports for hanging out and cheering us on..
Our camera died.. so the sideways pictures are from the phone...

We hung out for a little and enjoyed a few after race treats, and waited to see another friend in the race.. while waiting, they announced the winners of each age group for the short course.... Aubree took first place, with Aileen second for their age.. then Susan, (aileen's sister) took third in her age group... It was so fun that they all got a ribbon...
Aubree was so super excited!
I think she is now hooked.. because she want to do the spring triathlon..
Who knows, maybe it will be a family event in the spring...
Here is one of my latest crafts... inspiration from pintrest..
I love it because it expresses how I truly feel..
