So there is a great big long story to go along with this table. For a while there was talk at the station of how cool it would be to have a custom made table.
This year it finally came about. One fellow fireman donated some juniper wood, a few other cuts needed to be added, but the majority of it was free..
One day when all the joining and gluing were done, Drew propped it up on it's side and needed to grab something.... Out the door comes Hallie, so she stood and held on as long as she could---- then crash... it broke into 3 pieces.... Drew kept his cool, and we rejoined the broken pieces
(which in the long run, makes the table stronger)
Once that was done, it was off to the laser engraver...
It came back beautiful...
Drew then filled the knot holes and lots of sanding in prep for stain. We chose a dark rich stain which really made it look classy.
We took it to Steve's storage place, where we could have the temperature be 75 degrees so the coats of epoxy would set...
Drew and Heather did the first seal coat of the epoxy which went great and really got us excited for the final product.
A few days later the flood coat was poured on. Drew and His dad did this one...
A day later when checking it, we found that 1/2 of the table was tacky... and found out that it would never harden and we would need to remove all the epoxy and start again..
UUUUUUGGGGGGGG.......
This is right when we are leaving for Thanksgiving, so needless to say, we lost a lot of sleep while in Wyoming and did a lot of thinking of what we would do when we got back.
After a full 8 hour day, of Drew, Steve, Pat and Heather joined in later, the epoxy was all off, the table was re-sanded, we were ready to stain again.
So, we stain again, seal coat again and flood coat again...
**(this time Heather did the mixing so to not have a tacky table again)***
To much relief the epoxy hardened and it looks beautiful.
Here are a few close ups of the engravings-

In short...
Drew joined the table top 3 times, stained it twice, and applied epoxy 4 times, but seeing the final product done and in it's home makes it all worth it.
It has been amazing to hear all the comments within the station.
(sad thing is, Drew hasn't even gotten to eat at his table yet, because he is out from his surgery... he delivered the table to the station the night before going to surgery.)
What a guy!
Totally Stellar!
